Pear-Walnut Crisp

This dessert holds a real exceptional identify inwards my heart.  Not entirely produce I ordinarily arrive alongside pears from my mother-in-law's farm ...

... reckon them growing on her trees? ...

... it's also the dessert I served the nighttime my parents together with my hubby (then boyfriend!) met for the showtime fourth dimension ... dorsum inwards February, 2003.  Hard to believe Mark together with I convey been together for almost 10 years now!

We had been dating for entirely almost v weeks when these all-important introductions were made.  My parents together with I were leaving on a cruise to celebrate my Dad's retirement, thence they had traveled to my identify inwards Charlotte the nighttime earlier nosotros left.  I invited Mark over for dessert thence the 3 of them could meet.

Meeting-the-boyfriend-or-girlfriend's-parents is thence nerve-wracking, isn't it??  I'm sooooo glad I don't convey to larn through that anymore!

Anyway, obviously the introductions eventide went good ... 'cause merely 4 months later, Mark together with I were engaged ... together with Mom, Dad, together with Mark larn along fabulously.

Now, that night's Pear-Walnut Crisp was made alongside store-bought pears.  But straightaway ... now I'm fortunate to convey a provide of late-summer home-grown pears.

We've works life that our home-grown pears convey a thicker pare than store-bought ones together with are equally good 'chewy' inwards the crisp, thence nosotros peel them.  When working alongside store-bought pears there's no take away to peel.  Unless, you lot know, you convey an consequence alongside pear skin.  Then past times all means, peel away to your heart's content.
Just toss pear slices alongside a chip of saccharide together with cinnamon, hold upward past times alongside an oats-and-brown-sugar-and-butter topping, toss inwards some chopped walnuts, bake it upward ...

... together with you've got 1 delicious together with comforting dessert.

Throw on a scoop of vanilla H2O ice cream, frozen yogurt, or a petty whipped cream ... or larn champaign ...whatever you lot prefer.   Mmmmmmm ... 1 of my favorite desserts.  And non merely because of the wonderful retention that goes alongside it.
